First built as temporary wooden towers in 1872 (Kamysh-Burun lit that November, Churubash in November as well) after surveys confirmed their alignment precisely matched the canal's course, they were rebuilt as permanent stone towers in 1882 — Kamysh-Burun a red tower near the shore, Churubash a white tower further inland on higher ground — each fitted with clusters of six lens apparatuses giving first-class light strength along the range line. A rescue station and fog bell operated at the foot of the Kamysh-Burun tower. A reciprocal range, the Tamansky lights, was later built on the opposite shore in 1930 and rebuilt in 1974, today showing white-and-red and black-and-red striped lattice towers with flashing and fixed lights visible up to 25 miles.
