Contribute
LUX Light Archive grows through careful stewardship. Contributions help preserve lighthouse heritage with provenance, attribution, and continuity.
What you can contribute
Researchers, institutions, and individuals may contribute identity or relation corrections, predecessor/successor evidence, optic movement, custody/display/restoration confirmation, rights or attribution information, translations, keeper or community-memory sources, and documented media.
Every contribution should strengthen traceability rather than add volume alone.
Submission checklist
- LUX ID or public record URL
- The proposed correction
- The source
- What the source proves
- Media rights, when relevant
- Any remaining uncertainty
Correction or collaboration case?
A normal correction or source contribution is appropriate when one bounded record, claim, source, attribution, or rights note can be reviewed directly.
Propose an evidence-backed collaboration case when more than one custodian or source authority is involved, the question has a specific intended outcome, it cannot be resolved through a simple correction, and the observed evidence process may produce a reusable collaboration practice.
A case is temporary and does not transfer collection authority or create a partner repository.
Original texts and data
Original texts, metadata, and editorial descriptions contributed to the archive are made available under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike (CC BY-NC-SA), unless otherwise agreed in writing.
Software contributions follow the archive's open-source license. See Rights & Reuse for details.
Media and third-party works
Media may be contributed only when you own the work, it is in the public domain, it carries an open license compatible with documented display, or you have permission from the rights holder.
Do not assume third-party images inherit the archive content license. Uncertain material is marked for review and is not published until rights are verified.
Review and responsibility
Contributions pass through human review. The archive values provenance over speed.
Read Legal & Ethical Principles for the philosophy behind this approach, and Method / Evidence Policy for how evidence is handled.
