Built in 1980 to replace buoys marking a shallow bank about 15 km from shore, this is an unmanned automatic lighthouse mounted on a black reinforced-concrete caisson founded on a bed of stone rubble, with a 12.4-meter tower above. Wave action through a shaft in the foundation powers a pneumatic fog siren, while an isotope thermogenerator supplies electricity for the automatic red flashing light, visible to 6 miles. The station requires no permanent staff and is visited only periodically for maintenance; it passed to Estonian administration in 1993.
