This description is machine-translated and has not yet been reviewed.
Planned from 1929 but delayed by lack of funds, the lighthouse was finally built in 1943 as an urgent wartime measure to safeguard Lend-Lease shipping routes from the United States, consisting of a wooden lattice pyramid with acetylene lighting and a circular radio beacon. It served in that temporary form for 18 years until 1959-1960, when it was rebuilt as an octagonal reinforced-concrete tower, 13.5 meters tall, painted with black and white vertical stripes for visibility against the coastal terrain. The light, at 52.6 meters above sea level, now shows a white group-occulting light visible to 20 miles, backed by a circular radio beacon and an autonomous diesel-electric power station.
