This description is machine-translated and has not yet been reviewed.
Long delayed despite repeated shipwrecks (including the loss of five fishing boats and 29 lives in one storm in 1874), the lighthouse was finally built in 1896 as a small wooden house with a gray lantern tower. German U-boats shelled it twice in 1916 during World War I without causing serious damage. It was rebuilt in 1933 as a wooden pyramidal tower and equipped with one of the first Soviet radio beacons in 1937; it suffered further damage from bombing in World War II. The current reinforced-concrete conical tower, red and white banded, dates from 1975 and stands 32 m tall, showing alternating red and white flashes visible up to 18 miles, with a modern radio beacon added in 1997.
