Built in 1896 near a historic Pomor trading settlement, Vaydaguba Lighthouse was originally a small wooden house with an octagonal tower housing a fifth-order optic, lit only during limited seasonal periods. After World War I the western Rybachy Peninsula, including the lighthouse, was ceded to Finland; Soviet forces retook it in March 1940. The original structure was destroyed during the defense of the peninsula in the Great Patriotic War. A new 29 m round stone tower was built on the ruins after the war, with a technical building added in 1966 for radio beacon and fog signal equipment. It now shows a green flashing light visible up to 20 miles.
